A design system simplifying digital government services

Objective

The objective was to create a scalable, centralized design system for the MyGov platform, covering both the public-facing website and the citizen dashboard. The system needed to unify interface logic and visual language across all government digital services, reduce design–dev debt, and ensure accessibility compliance across highly diverse user needs and content structures.

Challenge

I had to support a wide range of UX requirements—from high-volume informational content to interactive service flows—while maintaining consistency and reusability. The system needed to be flexible enough to accommodate new services without fragmenting over time. I also had to ensure strict compliance with WCAG 2.1 guidelines while streamlining developer handoff across a multi-agency setup.

Approach

I built the design system using atomic design principles—defining tokens for color, spacing, and typography, and building reusable components such as inputs, modals, navigation elements, and layout containers. All components were documented and distributed through Supernova, with detailed usage guidelines, responsive variants, and accessibility annotations. I created Figma libraries with naming conventions optimized for dev handoff and introduced governance rules to ensure scalable adoption across teams. This system accelerated release cycles, eliminated interface inconsistencies, and enabled sustainable future development across the MyGov ecosystem.
